Hiring during a pandemic is logical and sensible

Hiring a candidate for a suitable role is quite common around the world but hiring during the pandemic is quite unusual because job losses and layoffs have dominated the news headlines throughout last year. Even though they lay bare before us companies went on a hiring spree across the country mainly for work-from-home positions rather than in-office vacancies.

Hiring during the lockdown remained stagnant and static but as soon as restrictions were lifted hiring picked up pace and companies preferred to hire for work-from-home positions.

Work from home was the new buzzword for companies during this pandemic. The term was a bit new and unheard of until recently, but since it was prevalent in the western countries, it got a new meaning and was acknowledged as the better alternative to in-office vacancies.

Companies across various sectors including IT, manufacturing, and services started hiring on a large scale despite the restrictions the pandemic posed. HR professionals were quick to admit that hiring has indeed picked up albeit at a slower pace.

Though hiring had picked up during the post lockdown period, salaries offered have remained low compared to 2019. IT professionals top the chart as far as hired candidates are concerned followed by the manufacturing and services sector.

Companies prefer hiring candidates in bulk to compensate for huge layoffs that were experienced during the pandemic. Large corporates across the country have made their intention clear of large-scale recruitment drive irrespective of the pandemic situation.

Nevertheless, companies have realized that hiring during the pandemic is a justifiable decision and would give handsome results at a later stage. Despite the stringent budget, companies have expressed their desire to hire and retain good performers at the cost of those laid off.

The pandemic has thrown open many challenges as far as hiring is concerned. The post lockdown period has forced companies to hire talent that suits their budget and strategy. Contrary to this, several thousand across various sectors have been laid off since the pandemic began.

The news that covid19 cases have once again picked up with new strains raging its head, is a clear indication that hiring across sectors will see a downward trend once again and companies will have to chalk out a strategy to hire according to their needs.

Job aspirants vying for work from home positions are at the receiving end since the salaries offered are less compared to in-office vacancies. Work from home option has garnered enough support from employees and hiring for such positions has increased manifold since the pandemic began.

It is a legal and logical decision to hire and attract talent that serves the company’s core interests. Going on a hiring spree is quite symbolic and denotes the intention of companies to attract and retain talent that is available in plenty.
