Impressed by his performance in the domestic season he was selected to play in the limited-overs matches on India’s tour to Ireland in 2007.

He was frequently dropped from the team due to availability of other players like Suresh Raina, Virat Kohli who batted in middle order like him and who had better run with the bad than him. But despite his lack of form he played in Ranji Trophy matches and managed to sneak in to the Indian team as an opener.
