Gautam Gambhir born in 1981 is an Indian cricketer. He is a left-handed opening batsman. He plays domestic cricket for Delhi, and is currently associated with Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League.

His One Day International debut came against Bangladesh in 2003, which was followed by his debut in the tests the following year against Australia.

His performance in the domestic season was good enough to enable the selectors to sit and notice him performing. He has several hundreds to his credit against his opponents in the Ranji trophy matches.

His international career began with a bang and he excelled against Zimbabwe, Srilanka and Australia. He has several firsts to his credit but his form let him down and he was dropped from the test team against all odds.

During India’s overseas tours, Gambhir proved his mettle and scored runs at will. He had a good run with the bat against New Zealand where he tormented the kiwi bowlers throughout the series.

During the 2011 world cup Gambhir had decent scores to his credit which enabled India to win the Cup eventually.

In the IPL Gambhir initially played for Delhi Daredevils for first three years of the tournament. His score of over 1000 runs was highest among all the players in the entire team. Later he was picked up by Kolkata knight Riders and he was made captain of the team for 2011 and future tournaments as well. He was again the leading run scorer in the history of the tournament.

Under his captaincy KKR won the IPL in 2012 and 2015 respectively.

Finally Gambhir married Natasha Jain in 2011 and is currently based in Delhi.
