Sardar Patel – Indian Politician with an iron fist

Several Indian politicians have risen to newer heights during their heydays but there is one person who stands out among the crowd. His name is Sardar Vallabh, Bhai Patel. He was called the iron man of India. He was appointed as the First Deputy Prime Minister of our country who had a good record of accomplishment among all politicians.

He is from Gujarat and having born and bred in his native state he quickly rose among the ranks of the political elite and had a good image amongst his colleagues. He was highly educated and was a lawyer by profession. He gave an immense contribution to the Indian Freedom struggle right from his childhood days and was instrumental in building our nation.

He discharged his duties with utter dignity and sincerity and had a say in all important policy decisions the party took. His contribution to the Salt Satyagraha was lauded by Mahatma Gandhi. He had a good rapport with the British officers based in India and even worked in tandem with them for India’s Independence.

He had the personality of a well-built and stubborn human being. He never shied away from in taking bold and controversial decisions and he managed to keep his distracters at bay all the time. He was known for his social endeavors who contributed towards the welfare of the society in general and women’s welfare in particular.

He had used force to drive away the invading tribesmen in Kashmir when Pakistan attacked India in 1948. Nevertheless, despite his efforts, India lost 1/3rd of Kashmir to Pakistan due to Nehru’s blunders. Such was his persona that he wielded considerable influence among all the party members and his colleagues who respected him for his quick decision-making ability and just in time action.

Patel along with Nehru, Gandhi, and Rajaji were close colleagues and had a good understanding of each other. They often consulted each other while taking decisions and had huge followers among the public. They were the new faces of British India who were to occupy important posts after the post-independence period.

Patel was a wise person who was true to himself and others and never buckled under pressure. His considerable influence was known all over the world and even world leaders were overwhelmed after seeing his boldness and called him an iron man of India. People loved him and along with Gandhi was one of the leading personalities Gujarat was proud of.

He was nicknamed Sardar due to his leadership qualities and his ability to influence people. He inspired others to take leadership roles and show a good path to others. He was a generous and very genuine person in his dealings towards others. His career spanned 80 years, which was full of ups and downs.

Eventually, we can say that he was a man of principles and he deserved true praise for his farsightedness and sincerity and honesty. This nation would be indebted to him always and he will be remembered for generations to come.
