Drug addiction is a serious and devastating form of habit that can ruin a person’s life. Drugs are actually a menace to the society and the community we live in. Drugs are available freely in the black market across the subcontinent including India. Drug dealers earn handsome money by just selling a handful of sachets to addicts who are on the prowl all the time.
Though selling drugs in the black market is a serious crime, possessing and consuming them would result in debilitating effect on one’s life and career, all this can devastate an entire family to a significant extent.
If any member of a family is addicted to drugs then he or she should be alarmed or warned of its after effects. Inadequate Counselling and awareness about the side effects of such a habit can result in mental trauma for not only the addicted person but also other family members if the concerned person does not de-addict himself or herself.
An addicted person should be isolated and sent to a rehabilitation centre for de-addiction procedure. He or she should undergo hours of counselling and advice with the help of expert doctors and psychiatrists. Awareness about the negative effects drugs can have on them and their family members should be put through in clear terms.
Family members have the moral responsibility to guide their wards from getting into acts that are otherwise dangerous and immoral. Addiction habit of a family member would lead to unnecessary burden on other members of the family who bear the brunt most of the time. They suffer mentally as well as physically due to the wavering habits of their wards, which would take them nowhere but reach a dead end.
To treat a person addicted to drugs, more proactive steps needs to be taken with a positive frame of mind. An addicted person should be treated with care and love since they have already been mentally ruined due to their drug habits. Counselling and advice should be first step in that direction followed by a stint in the rehabilitation centre.
Family members should be taken into confidence and necessary precautionary measures should be put in place to prevent any family member from getting addicted to unlawful and banned substances like drugs.
