Navratri festivities should be banned to check corona spread
Year after year Navratri or nine nights of intense revelry takes place with much grandeur and fanfare. This dance festival is celebrated throughout India and people of all age groups participate and indulge in dancing and singing for all the nine nights.
Now the question on everyone’s lips is whether Navratri should be allowed to take place despite the pandemic. No is the answer as far as the city revelers are concerned.
Nevertheless, this year the pandemic situation has forced authorities to cancel all the programs related to Navratri. There is an imminent order from the government to cancel all Navratri related festivities to prevent the spread of the virus.
There is a general understanding among the people that this year Navratri will not be possible due to the Covid19 situation and the impact it would have if the festivities go ahead.
It might come as a shocker to all the Navratri fans and enthusiasts but with cases increasing every passing day, there is no other alternative other than canceling the event altogether.
Expecting the government order, several party organizers and clubs have also decided to cancel the festivities altogether. Therefore, this year it will not be as usual for all the Navratri fans due to the ongoing pandemic situation.
Navratri is an event where people flock to dance and sing together and have light refreshments later on. Therefore, the accumulation of hundreds of Garba enthusiasts would create panic and mayhem and would lead to a situation that ultimately springs out of control. With hundreds gathered at one place, social distancing and wearing masks would be virtually absent.
In the absence of SOPs, the situation is likely to result in a super spreader where the virus spreads uncontrollably. This can be dangerous and menacing.
Therefore, the repercussions of organizing a Navratri event during this pandemic could be devastating and risky since the spread of the virus is at its peak and there are no signs of it abating eventually.
Despite the precarious situation, some crazy people out there are bent upon to continue with the festivities uninterruptedly. Authorities are constantly warning and dissuading people to maintain social distancing and insist upon wearing masks but a lethargic attitude and ignorance among people force them to behave insanely.
Finally yet importantly, organizing a Navratri event on a grander scale is ruled out this year and the effects have already been felt by the event organizers. The pandemic situation has dented the hopes of event organizers and several of them are in the process of incurring huge losses by not organizing an event that otherwise would attract people in hoards.
Unlike previous years when Navratri used to be a grand affair, this year it would be quiet and sober. There are no takers for the Navratri festival this year and people have realized the risky nature of organizing the festival during the pandemic.
Nevertheless, let us not lose hope because Navratri comes every year and if this year draws a blank, next year would be full of fun and frolic. The virus is going to abate one day eventually and everything would return to normal thereafter.
Eventually, all the festivals would be celebrated with much fanfare and enthusiasm once the virus abates and vanishes the way it arrived earlier this year.
