Educational Institutions should reopen or remain closed – A Correct decision is the need of the hour

There is a debate all over the country as to when all the educational institutions should reopen or whether they should reopen during this pandemic season. The government has notified that no schools, colleges, or training institutes should function in this pandemic period.

Every state government has its policies and procedures to follow. The covid19 pandemic has forced all the educational institutions to remain shut since March 2020. There is no clear way yet and despite several meetings by higher government officials, the stalemate continues.

Now the question of reopening schools, colleges, and other educational institutions is a widely debated issue. There have been rumors that all the educational institutions would reopen before Diwali but with the virus at its peak and showing no signs of abatement, it would be a while before the authorities take any concrete decision.

Parents are not in favor of sending their wards to schools and colleges and as a result, online classes have flourished like never before. Authorities are in a dilemma, they have had several meetings with the parents and teachers, and everybody seems to be on the same page.

With no clear picture visible, all the educational institutions have no other alternative but to remain closed until further orders from the government. This has given students a chance to take online classes from their respective schools.

With corona cases rising every passing day, there is a feeling that the situation is not conducive enough to reopen educational institutions this pandemic period. Nevertheless, there have been many objections from parents and all the stakeholders to keep the schools and colleges closed until the virus abates and the situation becomes normal.

Many parents are moaning about the loss of classroom teaching for their wards but they have no choice rather than make them study online. Every passing day the authorities are waiting anxiously and eagerly to decide with the hope that all the schools and colleges would begin the academic year with a bang.

The foregone conclusion is no educational institution should reopen during this pandemic period. The situation is grim and relentless and only time will tell what the next couple of months have in store for us.

My personal view is that all the schools, colleges as well as training and coaching institutes should remain closed until further orders from the government. There should be no letup in this decision because the student’s safety is paramount.

Authorities should take bold and meaningful decisions and it should be favorable to the parents, teachers, and students as a whole. Keeping all the stakeholders satisfied should be the key during this pandemic and there should not be any doubt whatsoever.
