NEET – The gateway to medical courses

A child has many aspirations to achieve something when he grows up. This aspiration turns into reality for some while for others it remains a dream. One such dream is to crack the NEET exam for admissions to medical courses.

NEET has been introduced to attract the best of the talent as far as medical courses are concerned. Unlike previously wherein students were given admission based on the marks of their 12th grade, this particular exam requires an aspirant to crack the exam with high percentage marks.

NEET tests a candidate on three parameters viz: Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. It involves quite a bit of hard work and sheer luck to get past the cut off marks required to get admission in the prestigious medical colleges that offer lucrative career option to bright and talented students.

Now the question is how to prepare and crack this particular exam which is quite demanding and exhaustive.

Let us look at some of the tips that would go a long way in helping a candidate to prepare and excel in the NEET papers:

The first and foremost thing an aspirant has to do is to know the syllabus for the NEET exam. Knowing the syllabus and thoroughly preparing it would enhance his chances of cracking the NEET papers hassle-free. The syllabus covered for the NEET exam covers the portion taught in CBSE schools for 11th and 12th grade. So having a thorough grasp of the syllabus would be ideal to make intense preparation for the real exam.

Second thing is to take note of important topics that are going to be covered in the NEET exam. Physics, Chemistry, and Biology are the three main topics that make up the NEET papers, and focusing on each of them with a positive frame of mind would do wonders for a NEET aspirant. Handling each subject at a time should be the priority and there should be no let-up in that.

The third point to be noted down is to have a good and comprehensive study material handy. Though books written and authored by eminent medical experts are freely available, one must have government access recognized NCERT books which are a good source of information for any NEET aspirant. NCERT books for NEET entrance exams cover the entire syllabus that an aspirant needs to keep track of to excel in the exam.

The fourth point that needs to be taken note of is to have a suitable and comfortable timetable for studying and preparing for the exams. A flexible and detailed timetable would allow an aspirant to cover all the topics comprehensively and do a quick revision whenever he feels to do so.

The fifth point is to concentrate and cover the sections in which the aspirant feels he or she is weak and needs improvement. Putting extra effort into weaker sections can bolster a person’s confidence level several notches higher and embolden him to perform better.

The most important point that needs to be taken care of is to revise and solve past year question papers to gain confidence and extra mileage when the aspirant appears for the real exam. Solving old question papers would enhance an aspirant’s appetite to do better and motivate him to a significant extent.

Finally, I have a word or two for a wannabe NEET aspirant who has the ambition and zeal to excel in such competitive exams. Cracking the NEET and joining elite medical colleges is every person’s dream and it entails a person’s sheer effort and hard work that never goes in vain.
