Studying abroad during the pandemic is risky and unsafe

Every year loads of Indian students leave for foreign shores for higher education. They aspire to get into their university of choice despite all odds. But the current pandemic situation has put brakes on the hopes of thousands of aspirants who are otherwise eager to get a foreign degree with the resources at their disposal.

Covid19 pandemic has affected the economic systems of several countries. It has closed down schools, colleges, and universities for several months, and the mode of teaching is online rather than the usual classroom teaching.

Universities across Europe, the Americas, and Australia have started their academic session but through distance learning mode. No classes are held and students are supposed to study online as an alternative.

Despite all odds, the pandemic situation hasn’t dampened the spirits of wannabe students who have embraced foreign universities with open arms. Nevertheless, studying abroad is a debatable issue during this pandemic.

There are a plethora of restrictions as soon as a student enters the port of call. He or she has to undergo a 14-day compulsory quarantine to prove that he or she is Covid free. Even during departure, a person has to undergo a series of checks in order to get a Covid negative report

Keeping all the restrictions in mind, a foreign sojourn this pandemic is not advisable and feasible. A student going abroad has to fend for himself in a hotel until the 14 day quarantine period ends.

He or she would be lucky enough if he or she gets a helping hand from fellow students post the quarantine period. Moreover renting a flat and paying monthly expenses would be cumbersome without a valid job offer.

With the virus raging its head like never before, leading a student’s life in a foreign country is not practical at all. To overcome the negative impact the pandemic would have on your schedule, it would be prudent to postpone your foreign study program to a future date until the virus abates and the situation becomes normal.

Seeking a foreign degree is a dream for wannabe Indian students, but due to the spread of coronavirus and its aftereffects, the onus lies on parents who should convince their wards to forfeit their overseas plans and settle for a domestic degree instead.

My advice would be to stay where you are and enjoy your life to the fullest. Studying abroad is an option that can be exercised later but going abroad for higher studies during this pandemic season should be a strict no for all those who have dreams and aspirations that go beyond their imagination.

During this pandemic season, earn a domestic degree from a reputed college or university within the country until the virus abates, and thereafter you can give a kick start to your foreign aspirations two or three years down the line precisely.

Last but not least, every Indian student aspires to go abroad and earn a degree from a reputed university, but those aspirations have remained unfulfilled this pandemic and it may continue to be so till the virus exists.

Therefore, do not get dejected and always have an alternative during this pandemic. After all, staying safe and Covid free should be the motto for all of us and it should stay like that for time being.
