Booze habit is unhealthy and insane
Alcohol flows freely wherever booze is available in plenty. Youngsters and adults are addicted to it immensely. It is an unhealthy obsession and a waste of money. Though the minimum threshold age to drink is 18 years, there have been instances of binge drinking among college and school-going children.
In our country, few states have permitted the sale of alcohol at state-owned outlets and hotels and restaurants, while others have prohibited the flow of liquor completely.
Now the primary concern is what effects it will have on youngsters and adults alike. An obsession with alcohol is not only hazardous but could also be devastating to the lives of young citizens who indulge in binge drinking.
An uncontrolled fetish for alcohol is an unhealthy sign of mental illness and stability. A mania to go on a drinking spree is simply a waste of money and harmful to health. Youngsters the world over and the western countries in particular often indulge in binge drinking thus putting their health in danger.
In India too, alcohol addiction has become a norm in some states where there is an alcohol permit. Even in prohibited states, alcohol flows clandestinely under the eyes of law enforcement agencies.
Girls and boys often try their hands on booze that is alcoholic and hazardous and this sends a wrong signal to the teens that would assume their role when they grow up. Despite government regulations and laws in place, alcohol addiction is on the rise and the number of jobless youth getting addicted to alcohol is more compared to those in employment.
Males of BPL families often take to drinking thus putting their livelihood in jeopardy. As a result, female members of the family have to bear the extra burden of earning the daily bread in the absence of their better half.
NGOs and private players undertake necessary steps to stop the menace of excessive drinking and ban the substance in a phased manner. However, despite all the talk that has been going on, no serious attempts have been made to bring the misuse of alcohol to a halt.
With every passing day, the consumption of alcohol by youngsters is on the rise and it has immensely affected their physical and mental stability. They are at the mercy of their parents who pamper them and allow them to splurge on alcohol without any control whatsoever.
Drinking habit is avoidable and treatable. However, the procedure for rehabilitation is a tough one and time-consuming and it is not difficult and impossible either. An alcoholic has to bear the consequences of excessive addiction and hence would be at the receiving end due to his insane habit.
A lot has been said and written about alcoholic addiction. However, despite the endeavor of all the stakeholders, a fetish for alcohol and binge drinking will exist until liquor flows freely.
Nevertheless, I can see light at the end of the tunnel. A good habit cultivated since childhood would go a long way in preventing youngsters from laying their hands on alcoholic drinks.
Saying No to alcohol should be the mantra, and youngsters, in particular, have the moral responsibility to give up their fetish for alcoholic drinks. All of them should take an oath to forfeit their habit of drinking and come back to a normal way of life.
