Parks

Lal Bagh may be an arboretum, commissioned by the Hyder Ali in 1760. The park is home to over several species of flora and a Glass House. The park is reputed for conducting annual flower show. The garden surrounds the towers erected by the founding father of Bangalore; Kempe Gowda I. another attracting is the Lal Bagh Rock, which dates back to 3000 million years.

Cubbon Park lies within the heart of the town and spreads over 300 acres. The park was set up by Major General Richard Sankey in 1884. The park has numerous species of trees and plants that span over 68 general and 96 species. The park is additionally known for its kids train.

Jayaprakash Narayan Biodiversity Park (JP Park) is on an 85-acre site at Mathikere within the north-west area of Bangalore. The park has four lakes, lawns cover 25 acres, and over 250 sorts of trees and shrubs are often found there all the time.

Historical monuments

Bangalore Fort -Originally built by Kempegowda in 1537 A D, it is located next to the Victoria Hospital Gate within the K.R Market area.

Tipu Sultan’s Summer Palace – it is  two-storied tall and is an ornate wooden structure with exquisitely carved pillars, arches and balconies. It houses a museum that contains artifacts concerning the Hyder-Tipu regime.

Bangalore Palace – it falls at the junction of Mekhri Circle and Cantonment railway station and has been created to replicate Windsor Castle in England.

Mayo Hall was designed in memory of the Lord Mayo and is considered among the best designs of British architecture.

Museums

Government Museum was established in 1865. It features a rare collection of archaeological and geological artifacts including old jewellery, sculpture, coins and inscriptions. The museum is additionally home to the Halmidi inscription, the earliest Kannada inscription ever found (450 AD).

Kempegowda Museum is devoted to Yelahanka chieftain Kempegowda (1513-1569) who is the founding father of Bangalore city. The museum is found on the primary floor of Mayo Hall. The museum has Kempegowda’s statue and also posters and pictures of forts, temples, reservoirs and inscriptions from his time.

Karnataka Folk Museum is found during a 15-acre campus at Kumara Park West. It has a superb collection of folk’s puppets, costumes, utensils, instruments, weapons and masks. Ethnic music collections and dance videotapes.

Gandhi Bhavan established in 1965 at Kumara Park is showcase of Mahatma Gandhi’s life. It houses a photograph gallery, his letters, a library and audio visuals.

HAL Aerospace Museum displays the expansion of the Indian aviation industry and HAL for 6 decades. The Museum is operated and maintained by HAL. The museum has on display several vintage aircraft, helicopters, engine models, Flight simulators, a mock traffic tower and exhibit of Indian aviation history.

Madras Sappers Museum & Archives – it was inaugurated in 1979 it displays the history of the Madras Engineer Group (called the Sappers, established in 1803). The Madras Sappers have the distinction of being the oldest regiment of the Corps of Engineers of the Indian Army. The museum has a unique collection of artifacts. It highlights their history, achievements, and houses armory employed by the regiment, medals, their attire and a sports gallery.

Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum – it was established as a part of the centenary celebrations of the engineer-statesman Sir M. Visvesvaraya (1861–1962) at Kasturba Road.

NIMHANS Brain Museum displays the human brain and its functions. It is located at National Institute of psychological state and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) and is managed by its department of neuropathology. The Museum seeks to assist visitors see the brain, understand how it works and obtain an insight into the type of diseases, which will affect it.

The museum has a diverse collection of several brain samples and the results of over 30 years of research. The Museum is open for the public for guided tours on Saturdays between 9 am to 4:30 p.m. and on Wednesdays between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. On the other days of the week, the museum is open between 9 a.m. and 4.30 p.m. Sundays and other public holidays Museum remains closed.

Philatelic Museum is found at the first floor of the Bangalore General Post Office near Vidhana Soudha.

Law Museum is a museum (established in 2006) dedicated to the bar. It had been the brainchild of Karnataka Supreme Court judge Cyriac Joseph. The museum houses an ingenious print of the Constitution of India, articles and documents associated with the bar, seals, insignia and books. It also displays the history of the Supreme Court and therefore the development of courts over the ages.

Legends Motorcycle Museum – This museum houses several models of vintage motorcycles in working condition whose vintage dates back to 1924. The Museum is the lifelong collection of motorbike enthusiast SK Prabhu. The museum walls are covered with biker memorabilia and pictures. The gathering includes a 1924 BSA 250 cc, a Cezeta 1962 and a few rare motorcycles from war II: the BSA M20 1942 500 cc, James ML 1942 and therefore the Norton 500cc 1942.

Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium – it is named after India’s first prime minister and is among the five planetariums in Bangalore. The City Corporation had founded it in 1989.

Galleries

National Gallery of Modern Art is a gallery in Bangalore. It was inaugurated in the year 2009. It displays works depicted by eminent artists and painters like Raja Ravi Verma, Jamini Roy, Amrita Sher-Gil, Rabindranath Tagore and an outsized number of recent and contemporary artists. NGMA also organizes art walks.

Karnataka Chitrakala Parishat is a gallery of high standards. It houses the traditional Mysore art, also as European Art, mainly Russian

 Nature

Dodda Alada Mara is an enormous banyan tree located in Ramohalli (28 km away). This tree covers 3 acres and is among the most important of its kind. It is a minimum of 400 years old.

Bugle Rock It is a massive rock situated in Basavanagudi, which rises above the mean sea level because of the main rock formation and has an assessed age of about 3000 million years.

Thottikallu This place is located at a distance of 25 km from Bangalore. It is the legendary falls called Thottikallu falls more popularly referred to as TK falls.

Nandi Hills or Nandidurg as it is called is a hill fortress of southern India, within the Chikkaballapur district of Karnataka state. It is located just three to five km from Chickballapur Taluq, 60 km from Bangalore. It is 4851 ft (1478 m) above water level. Nandi hills, is where the rivers of Penner, Ponnaiyar and Palar originate. Nandi Hills got its name from an ancient Nandi temple situated on this hill. This temple features a thousand year old sculpture of Nandi. An ancient temple of lord Shiva and Parvati adorns this hill.

Makalidurga – it is an excellent spot near Doddaballapura, around 60 km from Bangalore, which offers an excellent opportunity to trek and luxuriate in the environment.

Savandurga – is simply 55 km from Bangalore and is among the most important monolithic rocks in Asia. It is a perfect trekking place. The height offers an excellent view of the encompassing landscape.

Kaivara, cave temples 60 km away near Chikkaballapur.

Tippagondanahalli Reservoir, it is also known as T G Halli or Chamarajsagar. It is found at the confluence of the Arkavathy River and Kumudavathi River, 35 km west of Bangalore.

Lakes in Bangalore There are plenty of lakes in Bangalore and they include Ulsoor Lake, DRDO Lake, Sankey tank, Hesaraghatta Lake, Yediyur Lake, Nagavara Lake (also called Lumbini Lake), Hebbal Lake,  Varthur Lake, Bellandur Lake among others.

Wildlife

Bannerghatta Park is situated 22 km south of Bangalore. This park is home to one of the richest natural, zoological reserves. The massive area it covers makes this a serious tourist attraction of Bangalore, which is extremely crowded during weekends and holidays.

Butterfly Park it is spread across 7.5 acres of land. It consists of a butterfly conservatory, museum and an audio-visual room. The butterfly conservatory features a polycarbonate roof and is of 10,000 square foot (1,000 m2). The butterflies are kept in Circular enclosure, and the living environment has been carefully designed to support over 20 species of butterflies. The environment resembles a tropical setting complete with the humid climate, a fabricated waterfall, a narrow walking bridge and host plants and shrubs that attract butterflies.

Birds at Hebbal lake – This place is a natural habitat for migratory birds and is favoured by many species of water birds including large waterbirds like the spot-billed pelican, Eurasian spoonbill, shoveller, pintail, garganey, dabchick , coot and therefore the spot-billed duck. The shallow zone supports sandpipers and other waders as purple moorhens, purple herons and gray herons. Over 300 species of birds are recorded from the Bangalore region of which around 60 species could be seen with ease. Bangalore has a lively bird watching club that meets every Sunday.

Bangalore Aquarium is the second largest aquarium in India. It located at the entrance of Cubbon Park  and was established in 1983. It has a spread of exotic cultivable as well as ornamental fish on display.

Amusement parks

Lumbini Gardens – This garden has plethora of exotic flowers and plants. It lies on the banks of the Nagawara Lake near Hennur. It has a swimming bath, rides and water boating facility.

Wonderla It is a funfair located near Bidadi, 28 kilometers from Bangalore.

Innovative Film City is an amusement park with go karting, and stage and studio facilities.

Fun World is a funfair in Jayamahal road on the brink of Palace Grounds.

Snow City is an inside snow centre in Jayamahal road on the brink of Palace Grounds.
